Exhale recap

Thanks a ton to everyone who came out and supported the race. We hosted 215 racers who competed in about 360 events over the weekend, all without a single crash (despite all the Blowing Rock Ale we were drinking), and the Tsuga Canopies kept all of us dry during Saturday’s shower and sunburn free during Sunday’s scorcher. I really appreciate all the nice emails and posts, and I’m glad so many of you had such a great time. We’ll definitely run the race again next year, perhaps in the Spring when its a little cooler. Watch your inbox for a survey from info@pirateraceproductions.com – it will help us better plan future events, as well as collect valuable data for our current and future sponsors.

Note: One you you took home the wrong set of Kysriums , there’s an iPod in the wheel bag, and different tires and cassette than the ones you left behind, so take a second to check that you’ve got the right ones.

Results for both days are now posted here and up on USA Cycling.

Results…

…are posted on USA Cycling https://www.usacycling.org/results/index.php?permit=2010-1708 – the #@$@#$#@ USAC uploader combined all the juniors into one men and one women’s category and I can’t fix it. I’ll get pdfs uploaded here on Monday. Also, our apologizes again for the camera failing for the 35+ 4/5s – the officials got the top 10 and the bottom 5. Everyone else is just in the order they signed up. Maybe one day the CCA will bring the two camera systems it owns…

We had about 180 racers today, looking forward to another great day of racing tomorrow!

Ready to race

Weather forecasts for this weekend look great, we are excited to announce that the team from V. sport health will be on hand all weekend, along with our friends from Boone Brewing Company, Brushy Mountain Bicycles, as well as a food vendor, making for a fun, family-friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy two great days of racing. Don’t forget that online pre-registration closes Thursday at 8PM, so sign up now and save!

Exhale Race Weekend

The Exhale Race Weekend is a week away, and we are getting ready for two fun days of racing at the coolest venue in the Southeast. The venue features covered parking, indoor bathrooms with showers, great views, a fun, fast, safe and challenging course, Shannon St. Clair from Brushy Mountain Bicycles offering neutral support and rocking the mic, a food vendor on site, and Boone Brewing Company will be pouring Blowing Rock Ale all weekend long. After 10 weeks of running the NWS Crit series, we have this place dialed in. Check out all the great photos and videos we have posted to get a better idea of what we offer.

Do not forget that online registration closes Thursday at 8PM – day of registration will go up $5 per day and $5 for additional races the same day, so sign up now and save.

Clarification on the Junior races:
Junior races are open to Cat 4 & 5 boys and Cat 3 & 4 girls.
Boys and girls will race together but be scored and awarded separately. We got really cool medals imported from Italy.
Also, we did not put 18 year olds, who are officially “juniors,” on the flyer, but they can race with the 16 & 17 year olds (however, if your 18 year old is super fast, give the other kids a break and race with the <35 4/5s instead).

New Photos and Video

Another record night

Once again the storms completely missed us and nearly 80 racers were treated to great racing conditions on a dry track. Huge thanks to our official, Jim Smalley, who did a yeoman’s job handling the big fields all by himself.

Thanks as well to all the folks who pre-registered for the Exhale Race Weekend August 21-22. If you missed out, you can still sign up on line through Friday and get unlimited racing all weekend for only $40. After that, the online rate goes up to $25 for one race, with additional races the same day for only $5. Don’t miss out on what should be a great weekend festival of racing at a great venue.

Results are now posted here – the USA Cycling website is down, but we’ll get them online as soon as its back up and running.

Only Three Races Left

We had another great week of racing, with a ton of new people, and for the first time, food being served at the track. Our next race on July 28 will be your last chance to get UNLIMITED RACING during the Exhale Race Weekend for only $40 with no online fees. The super pre-registration deal ends at midnight on July 31, after that pre-registration will be $25, with additional races the same day for only $5, with Cat 4 Women and Juniors only $15. So bring your money – and your appetites – on July 31, and get ready for the Reidsville and WNC Crits that weekend.

Biggest Race Ever

Thanks a ton for making last night our biggest race to date. With all the new faces, I want to remind you about a few rules that will keep the NWS Crits going strong for years to come:

  • Do not drive you car around the track. If you’ve dreamed of stock car racing, NWS will be offering some cool opporunities in the coming months, but Wednesday nights are bikes only.
  • A ton of us brought our dogs last night, which was a lot of fun. Make sure no poop is left on the property, and keep them on a leash at all times.
  • Please throw away all your trash, and make sure the tables in the garage are put back where you found them.
  • I mention this every night, but never, ever, ever drop below the base line. Most of the P123 field last night was on the skirt in turn 4 in the final lap. Its dangerous, and its cheating. I dont want to have to start putting out cones, which would not be particularly safe, or hiring a third judge to DNF people, which would have to come out of the payout budget.

On a more positive note, we had some sweet podiums made, and will start getting pictures of all the top-3 finishers, so please stick around registration so we can get that snapped off.

Also, we are extending the super-discount date for The Exhale Race weekend to July 31 – get unlimited racing all weekend for only 40 bucks. We are offering 15 categories in 12 races both days, with age groups in the morning and skill groups in the afternoon, making it easy for almost everybody to race two or three times a day.

Finally, if you are a returning racer, all we need on your registration form is what race(s) you are entering, your name, your license number, and your signature. If your emergency contact info has changed, please be sure to tell us.

Podium photos and finish camera stills are up on the facebook page.
